The short answer is that I think this is what God wants me to do. The details include a desire to write, willingness to share my experiences with others, and a wish to help others know more about the dispersed monastic way of life. Most of what has been written about religious communities focuses on conventional, “live-in” situations. When I first became interested in joining a group like this, I could find almost nothing in print. Nothing about what it might be like day to day, how it would affect life in the world.
There is a saying that what a person is supposed to do is found at the intersection of the needs of the world and one’s desires. I have wanted to be a writer for a long time and I always assumed that would be fiction, because I have read primarily novels and stories for most of my life. Around fourth grade, I broke a rule and Mom punished me by not allowing me to read for two weeks. It was a long fourteen days.
Now, about forty-five years later, I believe I’m being led to the non-fiction arena, to share information and ideas about my current life. I hope to help others who may be interested in a new way of life such as I have found. I plan to share my own experiences, answer questions, and maybe be a place for others to talk about challenges they face on their own spiritual journeys.
